ACE strongly denounces anti-Asian violence and rhetoric in all forms. We also condemn misogyny and gendered violence.

Last week’s targeted murders of eight people, mostly Asian-American women, are a stinging reminder of the ongoing cost of white supremacy in our nation, and the continuing legacy of colonialism, capitalism, anti-immigrant hate, misogyny, and racism. We grieve for the loss of these eight: Soon Chung Park, 74; Hyun Jung Grant, 51; Suncha Kim, 69; Yong Ae Yue, 63; Delaina Ashley Yaun, 33; Xiaojie Tan, 49; Daoyou Feng, 44; and Paul Andre Michels, 54.

Atlanta is in the headlines, but we know that white supremacy is just as much a threat here in Boston and Massachusetts. We’re sending love and support to our friends, neighbors, siblings, and whole communities of Asian-American and Pacific Islander descent during this painful time. And while racism against Blacks and Asians can take different shapes, we see them as parts of the same struggle against white supremacy, and we promise to do more, to fight together better.

Reaching a better future demands that we build cross-racial solidarity. We must see the humanity in each other, we must grieve and celebrate together, we must fight alongside each other for this better world. I know we will keep learning to be better partners in this fight.

Below are some trusted resources for any member of our community -- Black, Asian, or otherwise -- to learn, take action, and donate.

Speak up

Silence is consent. As Archbishop Desmond Tutu said, “if you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor.” Now is the time for all of us, particularly those who have privilege, to speak up and challenge racism, discrimination, and white supremacy when we encounter it.
