Please join us this SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 17, 2-4 P.M. at THE DUDLEY CAFE, 15 Warren Street next to the Dudley Square T StationTRU community organizer Will Justice and member Stuart Spina will be joined by MBTA staff to discuss the T going cashless on board buses and the potential for more T police presence.Last year the MBTA Fiscal Management and Control Board approved a $723 million, ten year contract with Cubic to implement and maintain a new fare collection system, also known as Automated Fare Collection (AFC) 2.0. As a part of this new technology, the T plans on going cashless on board buses making life difficult for unbanked and underbanked riders including young people and seniors. In addition, instead of bus drivers enforcing fare payment on board buses, we expect someone, likely T police, to do "random" checks on board buses to make sure people pay their fares. TRU is organizing riders to demand our right to accessible and affordable public transit, and we need YOU to join our committee. If you'd like more information and want to speak with an organizer at TRU, please contact will@ace-ej.org. You can also check out this recent WGBH piece quoting TRU community organizer Will Justice.
